The microphone crackled as I pulled it closer on its stand, trying to calm my nerves and make eye contact with the audience of 400. Above, the harsh white light of the stage stung our eyes, and we could feel the panel watching us, speakers like Jeremy Irons, Hugo Tagholm and Natalie Fee with curious gazes fixed on us.
A deep breath, “Ok, everyone. Listen up…”
Little did we know that our short 2-minute call to action at the end of the Raw Talks London event would open so many doors, or jam my pockets with so many business cards at the end of the night. It was one of these cards that belonged to Steppes Travel. We’re now particularly pleased to have Steppes as our Official Supporter, and, most exciting of all, will be attending their Beyond Festival in September/October.
I’ll let the festival explain what it’s about: Beyond is a two-day weekend festival of talks, taking place at the Royal Geographical Society (with IBG), featuring some of the most intrepid, adventurous and inspiring personalities of our time in an enlightening programme of events. This year our aim of the event is to bring together the adventurers, the explorers, the conservationists and the organisations that share a passion for fighting plastic pollution.
We’re speaking on the Saturday (30th September), but aside from this we’ll also be ending Sarah Outen, Steve Backshall and the Oceans Panel sessions. Also, we’ll be backstage in the Green Room, interviewing some of the headliners (so keep an eye out for footage!).
We hope to see you there!
